Hope Can, and Will, Heal the World
Working Towards a Brighter Future
We may have never met, but I'm Makiyah Wilson. I entered this world at 1:30 pm on May 31, 2008, in Washington, DC to Donnetta Wilson and Michael Wilson. I attended DC Public Schools and DC Public Charter Schools, where I engaged in activities such as basketball, which inspired my future.
I also loved Hip-Hop and Rap music. Fat Trel and NBA Young Boy were my absolute favorites. You could always find me tuning into YouTube to rap along and watch CJ So Cool. I attended programs to help give back to the community because it was my passion.
These things shaped my future, but no one will ever know my next steps. On July 16, 2018, my life was abruptly cut short due to gun violence. I am not a hashtag. I am not another statistic. I am Makiyah Wilson; I was only 10 years old.
My colorful personality brightened up a stranger's day. My laugh was music to people's ears. I loved my life. I was an angel on earth before becoming an angel in heaven.
The Makiyah Lee Wilson Foundation is committed to raising funds and promoting initiatives to serve the people who need them most. We believe in taking action with urgency in order to raise public awareness about the most pressing issues facing today’s society. We support families who are impacted by all acts of senseless violence. Please join us by supporting our efforts to make a measurable difference in the lives of others.
